Physician Assistant
Melissa Henson (Mel) received her Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training in 2003 from Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, IL.
She received a 4-year basketball scholarship and was a member of the ONU women’s basketball team. Mel followed her athletic training and sports medicine career path for the next several years working as a certified athletic trainer for collegiate and high school teams. She received a Master of Health and Movement Science degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2006 while working as a graduate assistant in the athletic training department. After many years in the athletic training field, she decided to advance her career and was accepted to James Madison University’s Physician Assistant graduate program. She received her Master of Physician Assistant Studies degree in 2015.
Prior to joining the medical staff at the A.P. Beutel Health Center in December 2022, Mel worked for several years in orthopedic surgery in Sugar Land, TX. She and her husband live in College Station. She enjoys traveling, live music, hiking, biking, and photography.
